.m. out west. i'm miguel marquez. if you're just tuning in, thanks for joining us. these are the top stories we're following in the cnn newsroom. new details about the murders of two military veterans, one a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police
property. ats built a mock bunker which they used to practice rescue scenarios, and another report states the defense secretary, leon panetta, gave the okay for teams to operate certain rescue equipment. investigators tell fox news they're still working to determine exactly how he gunman died. so they probably know, they're not letting us know. one week ago he reportedly snatched the child from his school bus. shot and killed the school bus driver, in midland city, alabama, near the border. the sheriff said the suspect felt like he had a story. now that story could remain a mid. -- remain a mystery. >> we were never able to actually find out what his story was. he just continued to -- we know it was very important to him and very complex. we were never able to discover what the story was. >> here's what we do know. the young boy is set to celebrate his sixth birthday this week and you can bet his relatives will be there with him. jonathan is live. some birthday plans on the agenda. >> that's right. in fact we have some fresh video i want to show you from the nearby town of napier field. t

facing multiple murder charges. molly line has been following the story for us. american hero known as the u.s. military's most lethal sniper and another man both killed at the rough creek lodge roughly 50 miles southwest of fort worth texas, yesterday. texas authorities believe eddie ray ruth of lancaster shot kyle and his close friend chad little field shortly after 3:00 in the afternoon fleeing the lodge area in kyle's stolen pickup truck. he was a dedicated corporal in the marines who had been deployed in iraq in 2007 and served in haiti in 2010. currently listed on reserve duty. a motive for the shooting remains unclear. but ruth apparently suffered from ptsd. according to friends, kyle may have taken him to the range in an effort to help him cope and ruth turned on the two men, shooting them at close range. after the murders, texas authorities say ruth drove to his sister's house and told her and her husband what happened at the gun range. they called law enforcement who went to ruth's home to make an arrest. ruth fled but caught after a short pursuit and automatic handgun rec
